Dirtmall - Got The Goat By The Horns
This American rock ’n roll band out of Boston just released their debut album entitled Got The Goat By The Horns. They’ve been around for a few years, but until now they never had the chance to record an album.

The biography mentioned bands like AC/DC, Black Sabbath and Queen Of The Stone Age as influences, but like they write themselves, “we’d be setting exceptions way too high”. I surely agree with that. First of all, I don’t hear any resemblances with the above mentioned bands. I think Dirtmall operates a bit more in the corner of bands like the Turpentines, (old) the John Spencer Blues Explosion and the Stooges. Relaxed, thrashy rock ‘n roll dipped in a blues sauce.

This is a band that I would imagine to see in my local blues-pub. Just a couple of guys, to rock out some decent bluesy rock ‘n roll. The ideal music to chill out by with a huge hangover from the night before! It’s all played quite decently, but there is not one song on this album that really grabs you by the balls! In the middle of the album, there is a nine minute long song called ‘The Demons And The Damned’, which is a really good composed song with different layers in it.

A decent record, but with just a bit more balls and power this band would actually pull it off! If you are into the John Spencer Blues Explosion, the Stooges and MC5 kind of stuff, you might want to check it out!
